Like many terriers, the Norwich Terrier is at its best in an urban setting, surrounded by people. Because of the breed's inherent energy (and because of its genetic predisposition for hunting and chasing small rodents), the Norwich Terrier will also do well in suburban areas with enough yard space for running, playing, and chasing, but as a rule the dogs won't be as happy in larger rural areas or in any area with a great deal of local wildlife.

The Old English Sheepdog requires intensive exercise on a regular basis, and enjoys a variety of activities that involve vigorous movement. As a result, they are not well-suited for cramped living spaces or small apartments. They are fairly active indoors, but can become destructive if there is limited space. An average-sized yard is ideal for these dogs as they enjoy being quite active and playful. A farm or countryside area is ideal for these dogs as they enjoy running about and staying outside as long as possible. It is important to remember that they were raised to live and work on the farm, and have an instinctive desire to herd and explore. They do not do well if they are chained up all day, and can become listless, restless, and bored as a result. New environments can be stimulating and help them grow and learn naturally.

Papillons can live anywhere, but apartments may cause problems as the little dog communicates in a vocal manner, which may upset the neighbors. They require steady runs or playing in the park, and enjoy their owners company at all times. Good city dogs, the only problem is they cannot tell the difference between casually barking at a shadow or serious barking at a burglar. So--they do both. If kept busy, with adequate exercise, the little dog will not have the time for idle barking. Not a breed to be raise with small children, the best owners are families with older children or single individuals. The dog is fragile, dainty boned, and is rather fragile. If dropped or accidentally stepped on--broken bones will occur.

Although the Peke has a thick coat and can tolerate the cold, they do better as an indoor dog. They do not tolerate the heat at all and will quickly overheat. Pekes are not good swimmers and extra care should always be taken when they are around swimming pools, lakes, or major water sources.

Pomeranians are perfectly suited to indoor living, and will even do quite well in an apartment. They are spirited dogs, and do require exercise. However, due to their size, they can get most of what they need running around the house. They can be picky eaters, and since they need to be fed dry dog food in order to prevent tooth loss, feeding them can be a problem. They can get overheated because of their large amount of fur, and should not be left outdoors or in a car in hot weather. However, they are quite tolerant of cold temperatures, though they should not be left outdoors in severe cold either, simply because of their size.

The acceptable colors are silver, apricot-fawn, or black. The trace and the mask should be a drastic black contrast from the silver and apricot-fawn colors. Currently, the breed club is considering the placement of brindle amongst the color standard; however, it has not been approved.

This is a dog that does well indoor because it was bred as a companion dog; however, with its flat muzzle, the pug does not do well as an outdoor dog. Its respiratory system and respiration are compromised in the heat and humidity and extreme cold. Owners must ensure shade and access to fresh water if they are making an outing during hot and humid weather. Exercising the pug during these times should be minimized.

A house with a fenced yard or an acreage is recommended, although apartment living would be acceptable for a Rottie for they are not too active indoors. Daily exercise is a must to ensure that the Rottweiler does not become bored and destructive, regardless of it living on an acreage or in a small apartment.

Since Siberian have thick, woolly coats, they are ideal for people who live in areas with cool climates. Should the owner live in a tropical country, air-conditioning for the dog is a must. This is an outdoor type of breed and would be perfetly happy with a straw bed outside, although most do not have the possibility of having an outdoor dog at all times. Plus the fact that most dogs are now becoming more social pets and family members. Dogs have moved indoors. A Siberian can be perfectly happy in an appartment if trained from a pup to enjoy the tight but cozy way of living, thoe it is not recomended. As long as this dog gets what he needs in exersize he is adaptable to most kinds of living conditions.

The Yorkshire can adapt easily to most situations, making it a popular pet for families with children, single people, senior citizens, and just about anyone. They do great as apartment dogs, or enjoy the outdoors of a yard also. They are by no means outdoor dogs and need to be kept inside when not under supervision due to their size.
